Manual Lymphatic Drainage

So you're wondering...

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a form of massage that uses slow, rhythmic, and repetitive movements to naturally stimulate the Lymphatic System, a large network of tissues, organs, and capillaries that help rid the body of toxins and waste.

Unlike traditional massage, MLD focuses on the lymphatic system just beneath the skin, rather than deep tissue muscles.

Evidence-Based Results with MLD

⚘ Reduces Post-Surgical Swelling and Edema
MLD significantly reduced post-liposuction edema and improved patient comfort.
(Pereira et al., 2015)

⚘ Supports Lymphedema Management
The National Cancer Institute and Lymphology journal recognize MLD as a standard part of Complex Decongestive Therapy for patients recovering from cancer treatments (e.g., lymph node dissection, radiation).
(International Society of Lymphology, 2020)

⚘ Promotes Healing and Immune Response
MLD improves lymphatic circulation, helping remove cellular waste and reducing inflammatory markers.
(Zaleska et al., 2013)

⚘ Effective for Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
MLD had a more significant impact on reducing pain and fatigue in fibromyalgia patients than connective tissue massage.
(Torvinen et al., 2004)
